JOHN B. WOCKENFUSS

STRAT-O-MATIC BASEBALL LEAGUE

Founded in 1981, our league is named after the late MLB catcher John B. Wockenfuss (1949-2022), one of the few major league baseball players from Delaware. We are a face-to-face, cards & dice Strat-O-Matic league.

JBW uses two years' worth of cards, and once a player is acquired through the draft or trade, that player remains on a roster until he is cut or traded (some players spend their whole careers with one team). Our annual draft takes place in March, and features players that are newly-carded (only players with cards are eligible for the draft) or previously undrafted. Roster size for each team is determined by the previous season's record. Our regular season is 130 games long. Each week, managers are responsible for playing a 4- or 5-game series against another manager. All four division winners (and two wild cards from each league) make the postseason. We have a Trade Review Board (TRB) to ensure that fair play and competitive balance remain in order. No money is won or lost in the JBW baseball league, only bragging rights. Many of our managers have been in the league for 20+ years, but we also have incorporated several new managers over the last few years as well. Our managers are from northern Delaware, northeastern Maryland, and southeastern Pennsylvania.
